The Burning Plasma Research Group

Our group operates mainly in the area of theoretical-computational research. At present, we are active in the following fields:

  • Magnetic reconnection
  • Basic issues in stochastic motion and turbulent behavior in magnetically confined plasmas
  • Behavior of energetic charged particles in magnetic fusion experiments
  • Simulation of MHD activity in tokamaks

Our research is carried out within the context of the international fusion program. Active national and international collaborations involve at present the following institutions:

  • Institute for Fusion Studies, University of Texas at Austin, Austin, USA
  • Culham Centre for Fusion Energy (CCFE), Abingdon, U.K.
  • Institute of Physics, University of Pisa, Pisa, Italy
  • Istituto di Fisica dei Plasmi, CNR-ENEA-EURATOM Association, Milano, Italy
  • Centre de Physique Theorique, CNRS - Aix-Marseille Universite, Marseille, France
  • Consorzio RFX, EURATOM-ENEA Association, Padova, Italy
  • Max Planck Institute for Plasma Physics, EURATOM Association, Greifswald, Germany
  • Observatoire de la Cote d'Azur, CNRS, Nice, France
  • Departement de Recherche sur la Fusion Controlee, CEA-EURATOM Association, Cadarache, France

The Burning Plasma Research Group was established up in 2002 with financial support from the Italian National Institute for the Physics of Matter (INFM), the Ministry of Education and Research (MIUR) and the ENEA-EURATOM association. We are hosted by the Energy Department at the Politecnico di Torino.
